May 11th 2009Heartworm Disease is on the Rise!!
Is your pet protected from Heartworm Disease? Heartworm Disease is on the rise across the United States. In a recent study done by the American Heartworm Society, the number of heartworm positive incidences in Ohio has greatly increased since 2006. In 2007, the number of heartworm positive patients per veterinary clinic averaged from 6 to 25 cases per clinic, and in some cases as high as 26-50 cases. These are very alarming numbers!!
Both dogs and cats are affected by heartworms and it doesn’t matter if your pet is an inside or outside pet. Mosquitoes are the carrier for the disease. You need to protect your pet from this serious and potentially fatal disease.
It is very simple to protect your pet by giving a monthly preventive such as Heartgard, Iverhart, Revolution, Interceptor or Sentinel. Not only is it easy but it will cost considerably less to prevent the disease than to treat it.
We recommend an annual heartworm test and year round preventatives, not just during the warmer months. Missing just one monthly preventative could put your pet at risk and giving the preventative won’t treat your pet once exposed to heartworms.
We offer a wide variety of heartworm preventative products, both in our clinic or through our on-line pharmacy service. The better educated you are, the better you can protect your precious pet!
